On the 15th, Apple announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the "M5 chip." The release date is October 22nd, with prices starting from 248,800 yen. It will be available in two colors: Space Black and Silver. Key features include up to 3.5x faster AI workflow performance, high-speed storage, up to 24 hours of battery life, and macOS Tahoe.
Overview of the M5 Chip
The new M5 chip is a processor newly designed for AI. It features a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, delivering up to 3.5x faster AI performance and up to 1.6x faster graphics compared to the previous generation.
Furthermore, it boasts a faster CPU and an enhanced Neural Engine, accelerating every operation from launching apps to running large language models (LLMs) on the device.
For those upgrading from M1, there are significant improvements with AI performance up to 6x faster, GPU performance using ray tracing up to 6.8x faster, and CPU performance up to 2x faster.
Storage Performance
It delivers high-speed SSD performance for tasks such as loading RAW image files and exporting large video files.
Display, Camera, and Audio
It features a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with 3,024 x 1,964 pixels and a 12MP Center Stage camera. A Nano-texture display to prevent reflections is also available as an option. It also includes a six-speaker sound system.
Memory and Storage Configurations
All memory configurations start from 16GB, with options for 24GB and 36GB. Storage starts from 512GB, with options for 1TB and higher.
Dimensions and Weight
The M5 MacBook Pro 14-inch model has external dimensions of 31.26 x 22.12 x 15.1 cm and weighs 1.55 kg.
iPad Pro (M5)
The iPad Pro equipped with the M5 chip will also be released on October 22nd. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, with prices starting from 168,800 yen for the 11-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi model.
